Overview

The Orka Data Logger has been designed specifically for use in energy monitoring systems, and provides a high level of functionality with a large data storage memory.

Key features

Automatic meter reading of electricity meters and other Modbus devices (Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP are supported)Meter readings can be recorded at any interval from 1 minute to 1 day (typically 15 or 30 minutes)Up to 63 Modbus meters can be connected directly to the logger. *Any number of Modbus TCP devices can be logged. *Remote Modbus RTU devices can be logged via the network connected to the Ethernet port of the logger, using Modbus TCP via a suitable gateway or protocol converter – such as the NET485 converter available from Hughes Energy Systems.Pulse counting channels (16 or 32) can pe provided as an option. These are useful for recording data from meters with pulse outputs - e.g. water, oil, gas or steam meters.A VHF or UHF radio receiver can be connected to the data logger, for recording signals from Radio-Tech pulse transmitters. These are often very useful for connecting remote meters, where cabling is not an option. An on-board SD card is used for permanent data storage: approximately 15 years of data from 100 channels recorded every 15 minutes.Recorded data is sent periodically by email to any remote system - e.g. an energy monitoring system. The logger is configured either locally using a serial connection, or remotely via the network.A special remote configuration facility allows the data logger to be monitored and configured via the network - even beyond the firewall of the local network.Recorded data can be downloaded for any period from the logger, remotely via the network connection or locally via a serial port.A live data viewing facility is available in the configuration interface. This assists set-up and commissioning of the metering system.
Ad hoc Modbus queries can be sent to any meter connected to the logger via the configuration interface. The data logger implements a Modbus TCP gateway. This is very useful for "real-time" monitoring of selected meters connected to the logger. (Available in firmware version 1.2.)

Notes

The total number of channels that can be logged is determined by the version of the data logger. Orka Data Logger is available for 20, 50, 100 or 200 channels.
